Soft Power: Energy and Cleantech in the Digital Age

Register now

The Topic: In this next Productive Collisions, our eclectic, electric collection of experts will remind us that most people who work in the energy industry don't wear a hardhat to work; instead, they're more likely to sport a laptop bag, and maybe--upon closer inspection--the occasional pocket protector. This month we'll explore what happens outside of the hardhat zone, and look into the present and future of a different kind of plug-in, where the algorithm is the new black gold.

What does the next generation of energy and cleantech look like, and how/why does the mashup between pipelines, powerlines, connectivity and code matter?

The students, alumni, panelists, and guests in attendance will discuss, just for starters:
-Smart grids and smart appliances
-How movements such as data analysis and social media are influencing consumer behavior
-Energy trading
-Wireless and seismic technologies and how they relate to the conservation and usage of natural resources
-What happens when new technologies reveal new abundances of fossil fuels
-Digital satellite imagery
-Game-changing mobile apps
-Jobs that have been or will be invented--or re-invented--as a result of the long, silicon arm that has extended its reach into the sector
-And any other development that explains trends in the energy and cleantech industries now that technology and new media are exercising their political, environmental and economic influences.
