Tuesday, February 7 Wynkoop Brewing Company - Mercantile Room 1634 18th St. Denver 600-8:00pm A Look at Two Colorado Cities' Efforts to Chart a Course into the New Energy Economy: Boulder's Municipalization Initiative and Fort Collin's FortZED Project Speakers: Jonathan Koehn, Regional Sustainability Coordinator, City of Boulder Shaun McGrath, Co-Chair Boulder Clean Energy Business Coalition (Former Deputy Director, White House Intergovernmental Affairs Office; Former Boulder Mayor) Bob Lachenmayer, Area Sales Manager, Schneider Electric Steve Catanach, Light and Power Manager, Fort Collins Utility Two Colorado cities are undertaking bold initiatives in pursuit of clean energy and carbon reduction goals. In Boulder, voters narrowly passed two ballot measures that authorize the city to create a municipal electric utility with the goal of increasing efficiency and renewable energy and to localize and decarbonizes their electricity. In Ft Collins, the city is building a net Zero Energy District. The mission of FortZED is to transform the downtown area and the main campus of Colorado State University into a net Zero Energy District through conservation, efficiency, renewable sources and smart technologies. The speakers will discuss the goals, process, current status, and potential of both projects. They will also speak to each city's related smart grid efforts.
