| Blueprint
for a Green Campus |
 |
In April of 2000, the University
of Colorado Environmental Center released the Blueprint
for a Green Campus. To quote the introduction to the Blueprint:
“Building on the environmental successes at CU over
the last two decades, we propose a vision of a growing,
dynamic campus which steps lightly upon the earth and satisfies
additional demands for energy, transportation, and resources
through increased efficiency rather than increased consumption.”
The Blueprint lays out challenging goals in the areas
of climate change, transportation, health and safety, and
disposal and consumption habits.

Spring
2003 Student Bus Pass Survey
(464k) - In April 2003, the UCSU Environmental Center contracted
with Aspen Media and Market Research to conduct a phone
survey of 300 randomly selected, full-time CU-Boulder students
to better understand the successes and shortcomings of the
Student Bus Pass Program and CU's alternative transportation
efforts. The survey sample was randomly generated by the University
of Colorado Registrars Office. The survey has a margin of
error of +/- 5 percent.
Spring 2003 Student Environmental
Survey - This survey was conducted of 300 randomly
chosen students in order to guage the current level of environmental
concern at the university. The results revealed that the majority
of students surveyed are in favor of campus environmental
policy. Additionally, the results closely tracked those of
a similar 1999 survey.

Winter
2000 Student Bicycle Survey (752K)
- In December of 2000 the UCSU Environmental Center contracted
with Aspen Media and Market Research to conduct a phone survey
of 139 randomly selected, full-time CU-Boulder students. This
survey was intended to gauge the current level of student support
to improve the existing bicycle facilities and infrastructure
on the CU-Boulder campus. The results revealed that the majority
of students surveyed would be willing to increase student fees
to improve the existing bicycle facilities on campus. |
| Spring
2000 Student Bus Pass Survey - In February 2000, the
UCSU Environmental Center contracted with Aspen Research associates
to conduct a phone survey of 300 randomly selected, full-time
CU-Boulder students to better understand the successes and shortcomings
of the Student Bus Pass Program and CU's Alternative Transportation
efforts. The survey sample was randomly generated by the University
of Colorado Registrars Office. The survey has a margin of error
of +/- 5 percent.
May 2000 CU Faculty/Staff Buff
OneCard Tracking Survey
(268K) - The purpose of this survey was to determine participation
and usage rates for the newly offered Buff OneCard for CU faculty
and staff. The Buff OneCard allows faculty and staff to ride all
RTD buses free of charge. |

Finding
a New Way Book
(4.9MB) - This resource guide profiles success stories at campuses
across the country to illustrate specific examples of what Transportation
Demand Management (TDM) programs can do. The guide also addresses
possible pitfalls in starting up programs and offers suggestions
about how to avoid them.
Finding
a New Way Slideshow - a slideshow giving a brief overview
of the emerging new approach to campus transportation based on
providing mobility instead of simply providing parking. It is
created by Will Toor, Spense Havlick, and Charles Bloom. Special
thanks to Leanne Sweeney and to the spring 2002 students of ENVS
4800.

Food Waste Composting Guide |
 |
The Governor’s Office of Energy Management and Conservation
is teaming up with the University of Colorado to advance foodwaste
composting in the State. Grant funding was provided recently for
CU-Boulder to research and recommend ways to handle this challenging
part of the waste stream.
Institutions like colleges, hospitals, and correctional facilities
generate significant amounts of foodwaste. A typical cafeteria
can serve over 3,000 meals each day and the resulting organic
scraps and food-related paper can comprise up to seventy-five
percent of total waste generation by weight.
When done properly, composting is a cost-effective strategy for
diverting materials from landfills. It has the added benefit of
creating valuable fertilizer that institutions can use on their
grounds or generate revenue from.

General Publications
Academic Resource Guide to the Environment - This guide was designed to aid students in their efforts to receive academic credit in environmental topics. The University of Colorado Environmental Center would like to encourage students to explore environmental themes through independent study, enriching their academic career, and discovering application that will enhance their post graduate careers. This guide was created to provide students with a quick overview of departmental offerings and requirements along with other non-academic resources available to CU students.
Greenhouse
Gas Emissions Inventory - A summary of CU's carbon emissions
from 1990 to 2000.
