2009-2010 Available Positions
The Environmental Center is hiring for the following student positions for 2009-10. Starting pay ranges from $8 - $12 per hour, depending on position and experience. Time commitment also varies from 5 to 20 hours per week. Interviews with select applicants begin in mid-August, all positions to be filled by September 4th. Apply on-line by August 10th, 2009 (the deadline has been extended to August 24th for the Environmental Justice Coordinator and Sustainability Policy Assistant positions). General Environmental Center Positions
Audio-Video Production Assistant
Document campus events and activities. Film production and editting skills required. Produce video content for web. Journalism or Film Studies student preferred for access to equipment. This is an on-call position.
Campus Garden Project managers
The campus farm project is in planning. There are tentative student positions and will likely be hired and start in spring 2010 (not this fall). The positions may be internships for credit rather than for pay. There will possibly be three student manager positions: one position focusing on marketing and education, one on operations, one on volunteers and community service. The student positions will likely work with a part-time non-student manager position. More specific information on the positions will be available in fall 2009.
Carpool and RideShare Promotions Assistant
Market and promote a new interactive CU community Carpool and RideShare program (Zimride) directly to University students, faculty and staff. Contribute to campus-wide campaign development and execution. Eligible candidates should have previous advertising experience, excellent writing skills, thorough attention to detail and consistent communication ability. Hiring for this position may happen earlier than other positions at the Environmental Center, as desired start date is Monday, August 24.
Energy and Climate Outreach Staff
Seeking creative thinkers to design and implement innovative campaigns on climate change and energy and water conservation. Campaign strategies include guerilla marketing and awareness-raising, public events, information displays, website, and peer presentations. Required skills: ability to develop ideas and execution plans; confidence with speaking on energy and global warming to groups of students; good presentation and writing skills; ability to complete projects and maintain deadlines with minimal supervision. Preferred but not required: knowledge of energy and climate change issues; marketing or communications experience.
Environmental Justice Coordinator
Coordinate, create and collaborate with campus and community resources on Social and Environmental Justice projects. Create EJ initiatives for both on campus and in local communities. Work closely with Diversity Outreach Coordinator and CU Assembly for Social Equity.
Events Coordinator
Organize logistics of campus environmental events, from conferences and concerts to speakers and slideshows. Involves developing program ideas and funding proposals, reserving locations and equipment, negotiating contracts, serving as a liaison between speakers and the University, attending all events, etc. Requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Graphic Designer
Produce ads and posters for events and programs. Layout newsletter, brochures and publications. Experience with graphic design using InDesign, Photoshop and/or Illustrator necessary.
Green Teams off campus outreach: Energy Team Members
The energy Green Teams help off-campus students save energy through direct contact with them in their homes on the Hill and other student areas. Teams of trained members distribute literature and answer students' questions about how to save energy and the benefits of doing so. All team members need excellent communication skills and enthusiasm to educate peers. Minimal time commitment needed; hours vary 2 - 6 hours per week. Late afternoon/evening availability required.

Greek Sustainability Outreach Coordinator
The Coordinator will engage the broader CU Greek leadership and community in adopting sustainable actions in their houses, including energy audits, efficiency improvements or renewable energy; getting recycling and composting in houses. Work with Greek governance on the creation of a Greek Sustainability Board composed of members of the Greek Community. Recruit and coordinate “sustainability chairs” – student liaisons in individual houses. Promote – and seek opportunities to present on – the benefits of sustainability actions to key decision-makers in each house. Be a liaison to the Greek community and leadership on CU Environmental Center and City of Boulder sustainability programs and projects.
Promotions Assistants
Be the active promoter of all Environmental Center programs. Must love to work with other people! Conduct postering, tabling, consumer education and expand the "Live Green" pledge campaign. Provide office/event support as needed. Public speaking skills a must.
Recycling Assistants
Work you can feel good about with an award-winning recycling program. Learn the business of recycling through hands-on collection of materials, operational work at our campus facility, and special events recycling. Potential for outreach assistance, and waste reduction and research projects. Students with work-study awards given priority.
Recycling Outreach Staff
Educate the campus community about recycling and waste reduction. Develop and distribute information, conduct visits to campus offices, and give presentations to students, faculty and staff.
Residence Hall Eco-Leaders
Help turn your residence hall into a greener place. Learn about environmental initiatives on campus and educate your peers about sustainable living. Must live in a campus residence hall. Work 2-4 hours/ week for a $150/ semester stipend.
Sustainability Policy Assistant
Research sustainability policy for University of Colorado at Boulder programs. Projects may include assistance with Carbon Neutrality research, replacing disposable plastic water bottles on campus, recognizing social benefits of sustainability programs, and support of AASHE's STARS campus sustainability rating system. A policy graduate student or sustainability research experience is desired.

Temporary Positions
Temporary Cardboard Recyclers
(August 15 - September 2 only)
Start off your semester making a difference! Recycle cardboard and educate new students about recycling at residence halls during move-in. Flatten boxes, empty containers, and direct students to recycling bins. Physical outdoor labor. Flex. hours. 7am-10pm. Work 10-40 hours/ week. MUST be available to work during move-in, between August 20 - 31.
