Film Screening: Papers
Monday, March 15th Wittemyer Courtroom, 2450 Kittredge Loop Road 7 pm
The Sociology Diversity Committee has organized a screening of the documentary "Papers," which covers the stories of undocumented youth and the challenges they face as they transition to adulthood. Commentary on the film will be provided by special guest, Mario Solis-Marich of AM 760 Progressive Talk, a political campaign consultant and a public affairs communications advocate. Admission is free and doors open at 6:30.

Climate Change Focus Group

Cultivating Communities of Sustainble Abundance

The Permibus is coming to Boulder! Learn how Permaculture design can be used to cultivate communities that move beyond simple sustainability into communities that are resilient, vibrant, and abundant. This session will begin with a brief overview of the Permaculture ethics and principles that are the heart of all permaculture design. Learn about how appropriate technology such as grey water, alternative power, and community gardens can be incorporated into living systems that heal the earth and our communities. This will be followed by a lively discussion on how permaculture is, and can be, applied to food production, community design, and social structures to make communities healthy and our world an abundant garden.

Reconnecting with Earth

A six-session course addressing core values and how they affect the way we view and treat the Earth. This course also contains an optional seventh session Celebration where participants can explore follow up actions. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Discussion Course Goals:

- To discover how personal beliefs and values affect the way we view and treat the earth

Film Screening: The Cove

The Cove exposes the threat to more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises in Taiji, Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening as the Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. The focus of the Social Action Campaign for The Cove is to create worldwide awareness of this annual practice as well as the dangers of eating seafood contaminated with mercury and to pressure those in power to put an end to the threat.

Energy and Environment Conference

Climate change and the greening of America have become focal points in light of the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the recent State of the Union Address and new developments on climate change in the Senate. The Vail Symposium will review what was discussed (and what wasn't) in the UN meetings and how policy leaders and scientists alike can turn goals into reality for a greener future. Topics of discussion will include foreign and national policies which may ultimately affect Colorado, mitigation or potential climate changes, and adaptation to potential adverse effects.

Community Cycles Volunteer Orientation

Community Cycles, a nonprofit that educates and advocates for biking as alternative transportation, will host a volunteer meeting on Tuesday, March. 23rd. Volunteer opportunities include general shop help, workshop and program facilitators, mechanics of any skill level, individuals interested in leading community rides, event planning, fundraising, and bicycle collection and more. Volunteer orientations are held the fourth Tuesday of each month.
