Faith Gemmill

Faith Gemmill is the current Program Director for the Gwich'in Steering Committee which was created in 1988 as the political arm of the Gwich'in Nation to protect the fundamental human rights of the Gwich'in. The Committee seeks permanent protection of the sacred birthplace of the Porcupine River Caribou Herd located in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from proposed oil development.

Faith is also a field representative with the International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) which represents Indigenous Peoples of the Western Hemisphere at the United Nations. She continues to work at the international level in various forums addressing human rights issues that impact indigenous peoples. Faith currently serves as a Board of Director for the National Wildlife Federation, and as a Board of Director for Project Underground, which supports the human rights of communities resisting oil and mining exploitation.
