Earth Education Internship
Tired of sitting in lectures? Imagine a class that was fun, innovative and allowed you, the student, to teach. Imagine that this class also provided you with the tools to impact future generations. Well, now there is this class being offered at CU! Earth Education is offered as a two credit class through the Environmental Studies department during the spring semester. Earth Education's mission is to promote environmental awareness and scientific achievement by focusing on children's personal connection to the Earth.

Eric Cellucci, an earth education intern, teaches students where their water comes from.
Debbie Bock, an earth education intern, teaches her fourth grade about the water cycle.
"I feel Earth Ed is such a powerful tool in many ways. From the college student's perspective I am exploring an opportunity that would almost be impossible to get. I am learning how to be a flexible, creative, and motivating teacher as well as enhancing my speaking skills. Creating a fluid curriculum was a challenge but the responsibility got me thinking and organized. This is preparing me in ways I could not have imagined to become a great teacher...This is an amazing opportunity for students to become a part of the community and take pride in their work at the same time it is an opportunity for the community to get a fresh new way of teaching...it has changed my life." - Jesi Vandeputte, 2005 Earth Education Intern
Lindsey Byers, an Earth Education intern, shows her student the Flatirons on a hike nearby their school.
The class will be two-fold. The first part will be a 50 min. class held weekly on campus. During this time, interns will participate in curriculum building and teacher training lectures. Guest speakers will frequent the class to talk about topics in earth education. The major component of the class is teaching in Boulder County’s schools! The interns will spend one hour a week teaching at a local school for about 10 weeks of the semester. We will help set this up for each interns. There are no prerequisites for this class, except a great attitude and the desire to teach the future! Space is limited.

Lindsey Byers, an intern, shows her students how to plant seeds.
